The honest take

Where each option fits.

Fireflies.ai

Fireflies can capture every participant in remote video calls through its visible bot or bot-free desktop and Chrome system-audio options, which WhisperJot cannot do. Its meeting workflow adds speaker recognition, summaries, action items, Q&A, real-time suggestions, search, analytics, soundbites, and broad CRM integrations. Fireflies also says neither it nor its vendors use personal information for model training, and Enterprise adds private storage and a healthcare compliance option.

WhisperJot

WhisperJot records microphone audio for private notes from meetings you can hear, including in-person meetings, interviews, lectures, and your side of calls. Transcription stays on-device and works offline after the model download; audio stays on the machine. The $99/year plan has no minute or storage caps, exports Markdown and plain text, and includes system-wide dictation on Mac, Windows, and beta Linux. It does not record the remote side of calls or provide summaries, action items, or speaker identification.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does Fireflies join meetings as a bot?

Fireflies primarily joins supported calls as a visible participant named Fireflies.ai Notetaker, and hosts can deny it entry. It is not bot-only: Fireflies also offers a Google Meet Chrome extension, Mac and Windows desktop system-audio capture, and mobile recording options that do not add a participant.

Does Fireflies train on my meeting data?

Fireflies says it does not use personal information for AI model training and contractually prohibits its vendors from using that information for their own model training. It also states that vendors retain meeting data for zero days. Users can delete transcripts at any time.

Can WhisperJot record a whole remote meeting like Fireflies?

No. WhisperJot captures microphone audio only, not system audio or the remote side of a video call. Fireflies can capture every remote participant with its meeting bot or bot-free system-audio options. WhisperJot instead fits private notes from in-person meetings, interviews, lectures, and your side of calls.

Does Fireflies work offline?

Fireflies documents cloud processing and does not document an offline mode. WhisperJot transcribes meeting audio on-device and continues offline after the local model download. This distinction matters when connectivity is limited or when meeting audio needs to remain on the computer.

Is Fireflies free?

Fireflies has a free plan with unlimited transcription, limited AI credits, and 400 minutes of storage per team according to its pricing page; published limits can change. WhisperJot has no free tier. Its $99 annual plan has no per-minute or storage caps and includes system-wide dictation.
