Editable typed messages
WhisperJot puts text in the compose field so you can revise before sending, unlike an audio message that the recipient hears.
Typing by voice in Messages on Mac uses macOS Dictation in the compose field. The waveform button records an audio message that is automatically transcribed for the recipient in the sender's system language. WhisperJot can insert cleaned-up text in the same compose field from one hotkey.
Typing by voice in Messages is standard macOS Dictation in the compose field: enable it in System Settings > Keyboard > Dictation, start with the Microphone or Dictation key, the Dictation shortcut, or Edit > Start Dictation, and stop with Esc. There is no length timeout; it stops after 30 seconds of silence. On Apple silicon, supported languages are processed on-device. Audio messages are a different path: click the record (waveform) button, speak, stop, optionally play, then press Return to send. Apple says audio messages are automatically transcribed in the language of the sender's system so the recipient can read a transcript. The audio disappears from your side two minutes after sending unless you click Keep. Apple lists supported transcription languages on its feature-availability page; this guide does not enumerate them. Apple does not state whether that audio transcription is on-device.

Per-app tone can keep Messages conversational while email or documents use a more formal setting.
Filler removal, spoken punctuation, self-correction, and spoken shortcuts help a spoken reply read like a typed one.
With a local engine selected, transcription runs on-device by default and can work offline after a one-time model download (about 500 MB on Mac, around 600 MB on Windows and Linux). Jot Cloud is opt-in.

Apple's cited materials say the recipient can read a transcript in the sender's system language, and they list supported languages on the macOS feature-availability page. They do not state whether that transcription runs on-device, so this guide does not claim a processing location. Check Apple's current documentation if on-device processing is a requirement for you.
WhisperJot inserts cleaned-up text into the focused Messages compose field. You can then send from Messages, and optional spoken “press enter” can send after insertion. It does not record an audio message or replace the waveform button. Local engines transcribe on-device by default; Jot Cloud is opt-in. Per-app tone can keep Messages casual without changing how other apps sound.
