How to dictate in Notion
across pages, databases, and comments

Notion has voice input for AI prompts and AI Meeting Notes, but not continuous dictation for page content. To speak directly into a block, database cell, or comment, focus that field and use OS dictation or WhisperJot's desktop hotkey.

Native options

No built-in dictation in Notion

Notion does not have native dictation for writing page blocks. Its April 6, 2026 desktop release added voice input for speaking prompts to Notion AI, not for continuously dictating page text. AI Meeting Notes uses microphone input to transcribe meetings on plans with Notion AI, which is also distinct from direct text entry. macOS Dictation and Windows voice typing can work in a focused Notion block; WhisperJot adds a system-wide route with local engines.

One hotkey across apps

Dictate in Notion with WhisperJot

  1. Set up WhisperJot on your computer, open the Notion page, and place the caret inside a text block, database cell, or comment.
  2. Start speaking with ⌥Space on macOS, Ctrl+Alt+Space on Windows or Linux, or the hold-fn shortcut on Mac.
  3. Use commands such as “new paragraph” or “bullet point” when the note needs structure, while partial text stays visible in the floating HUD.
  4. Finish the recording and check the punctuated, capitalized text inserted at the active Notion cursor.

Works across Notion fields

The same shortcut can enter text in a page block, a database property, or a comment because WhisperJot types into the focused app control.

Spoken document structure

Voice commands including “new paragraph,” “bullet point,” and “all caps” help shape notes without reaching for formatting keys.

Draft away from a connection

After the approximately 2.3 GB initial download, WhisperJot's local engines can transcribe fully offline and process speech on-device by default.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does Notion have built-in dictation for page content?

Notion's desktop voice input is designed for speaking prompts to Notion AI, rather than continuously dictating text into page blocks. Notion AI Meeting Notes can transcribe microphone input during meetings on plans with Notion AI, but that is a meeting-transcription feature, not general-purpose dictation for pages, cells, or comments.

How do I dictate into a Notion database cell?

Select the database cell so its text cursor is active, then start your operating system's dictation feature or use WhisperJot's global shortcut. WhisperJot types the completed transcription into whichever Notion control has focus, so the workflow also applies to ordinary blocks and comments without requiring a Notion integration.

Can I create bullets by voice while dictating in Notion?

WhisperJot recognizes voice commands such as “bullet point,” “new paragraph,” and “all caps.” Say the command as you dictate, then review the structured result after it is inserted in the focused Notion block. The commands belong to WhisperJot's transcription workflow and are separate from Notion AI prompt voice input.

Can WhisperJot dictate into Notion while offline?

WhisperJot's local engines process speech on-device by default and can operate fully offline after an initial model download of roughly 2.3 GB. This lets you draft text for a Notion page without sending the transcription to a speech service, although Notion itself may still need connectivity for syncing and other features.

Is Notion AI Meeting Notes the same as voice dictation?

AI Meeting Notes is not the same as dictation: it captures microphone input for meeting transcription on plans that include Notion AI. Dictation instead converts speech into text at the cursor as you compose. If your goal is to write a page, edit a property, or leave a comment by voice, use OS dictation or a system-wide dictation tool.
