French speech to text for emails and notes

For French speech to text, select French in WhisperJot and choose Jot Local Pro with a multilingual model. Dictate into an editable draft, then check accents, apostrophes and agreement. Local transcription works after model setup; the documented cleanup rules are English-focused.

Prepare French dictation

On Windows and Linux, Jot Local is English-only, so use Jot Local Pro for this workflow. Test in a local editor first if you want to check offline use; a webmail app has its own network requirements.

  1. Download a multilingual Jot Local Pro model. Avoid models whose names end in .en, including small.en on Mac.
  2. Choose French explicitly in the language picker. A language selection does not add French support to an English-only model.
  3. On Mac, leave Translate to English off when the draft should remain in French.
  4. Click an editable email body or local note and dictate a short paragraph. Keep the cursor in that field until insertion finishes.

Practice a short French email

Speak the body naturally, then use the editor to arrange the greeting, paragraphs and signature. Read the output against the intended message. Check Élodie, préparé, résumé, réunion and vérifier rather than assuming every accent will be present.

Keep names and dates beside the draft while reviewing. Paste an email address from its source instead of relying on recognition of a sequence of letters. The example contains no sending action; use your email app's controls after review.

Authored French draft — not a captured model result
Bonjour Élodie,
J'ai préparé le résumé de notre réunion. Peux-tu vérifier les dates avant jeudi ?
Merci,
Camille

Review words that sound alike

French transcription and French grammar correction are different tasks. English-focused cleanup is not a substitute for a French proofreading pass. If a recurring proper name is wrong, try a small vocabulary entry and compare several ordinary sentences before keeping it.

Keep a reusable review routine

For a longer note, dictate one idea per paragraph and review between sections. Keep any practice results specific to your voice, microphone and chosen model; this guide does not establish an accuracy score for French.

  1. Read once for the message: request, timing and intended recipient.
  2. Read again for accents, names, agreement and punctuation.
  3. Check links and attachments in the destination app.
  4. Save or send only after the text says what you intended.

Questions

Can I dictate French offline?

Yes, with a downloaded multilingual local model and valid account access. Test in a local document after setup. Periodic verification and a cloud destination app have separate connectivity requirements.

Does French dictation add correct grammar automatically?

Do not assume it does. The documented cleanup rules are English-focused. Review French accents, agreement, apostrophes and punctuation yourself.
