Spanish speech to text on Mac, Windows and Linux

To dictate in Spanish with WhisperJot, select Spanish and use Jot Local Pro with a multilingual model. Download it before working offline. Review accents and punctuation yourself: the app's cleanup rules are English-focused, so Spanish transcription does not imply Spanish text polishing.

Choose a multilingual model for Spanish dictation

The desktop language picker includes Spanish and Auto-detect. Select Spanish explicitly for a Spanish passage, especially if a short recording is detected incorrectly. macOS defaults to English; Windows and Linux default to auto. The language setting cannot turn an English-only model into a multilingual one.

Set up offline Spanish voice typing

  1. While connected, finish account verification and download the multilingual model for Jot Local Pro.
  2. Choose Spanish in the language picker. On Mac, leave Translate to English off when you want Spanish text.
  3. Open a local scratch document and click the field where the text should appear.
  4. Dictate a short Spanish passage, then check the transcript before changing cleanup or vocabulary settings.
  5. Repeat with the network disconnected to check the local workflow. Account access still requires periodic verification.

Check accents, names and punctuation

Use a passage you can proofread. Check ñ, accented vowels, names, numbers and question boundaries. A missing accent can change meaning: compare sí and si. Record which corrections recur before adding vocabulary entries.

Do not assume spoken English punctuation commands or English filler-removal rules work equivalently in Spanish. Review the recognized text and add or correct punctuation in your editor. For bilingual passages, check both languages; this guide does not promise automatic switching accuracy.

Authored Spanish practice passage — not a captured transcript
Practice passage: Mañana enviaré el informe a María. ¿Podemos revisarlo después de la reunión?
Review: mañana, enviaré, María, después, reunión; opening and closing question marks.

Keep transcription separate from translation

Spanish speech to text preserves the language you spoke. Translation changes the output language. If you expected Spanish but received English on Mac, check Translate to English before treating the result as a recognition failure.

For a recording you already have, Mac offers Transcribe Audio File with a local model. The browser audio transcription tool uses cloud processing and requires internet. Use the live dictation workflow when you want to speak directly into a document.

Questions

Does Spanish dictation work offline?

Yes, with a downloaded multilingual local model and valid account access. Finish setup while connected and test in a local document. Periodic account verification and optional cloud features have separate network requirements.

Will WhisperJot automatically polish Spanish grammar?

The documented cleanup rules are English-focused. Treat Spanish output as a transcript to proofread, including accents, punctuation and names; equivalent Spanish polishing is not promised.

Why is Spanish speech being recognized incorrectly?

Check the input recording, select Spanish explicitly and confirm the model is multilingual. On Windows and Linux, use Jot Local Pro rather than the English-only Jot Local engine. Compare a short clear passage before changing several settings at once.
