Words correct spelling and can include sounds-like variants. Shortcuts expand a spoken trigger into text and support {date}, {time}, and {clipboard}. Both apply at every cleanup level, as whole words, case-insensitive.
What is the difference between Words and Shortcuts?
Words store the correct spelling plus optional sounds-like variants. They bias the engine and fix near-misses so names and jargon land as you intend. Shortcuts expand a spoken trigger into replacement text. They support {date}, {time}, and {clipboard} placeholders.
Both apply at every cleanup level, including None. Matching is whole-word and case-insensitive, so a shortcut does not fire in the middle of a longer word.
When do vocabulary and shortcuts run in the pipeline?
They run as part of cleanup for every dictation. Light, Medium, and High still apply their own rules or local LLM pass afterward. None skips filler and punctuation rules but still applies Words and Shortcuts. After an LLM edit, Undo AI Edit in the menu bar reverts to the rule-cleaned version, which still includes those expansions.

Words are separate: they fix spelling and optional sounds-like variants instead of expanding a phrase into a snippet.
Do custom words still apply if cleanup is set to None?
Yes. Vocabulary and shortcuts apply at every cleanup level. None means the transcript stays raw aside from those replacements: no filler removal, capitalization, or punctuation rules, and no local LLM. Light, the default, adds those rules. Add Words for spellings and Shortcuts for expansions you want in every take.
Are vocabulary matches case-sensitive?
No. Words and Shortcuts match whole words without regard to case. A shortcut will not fire as a substring inside a longer word. Use Words when you care about spelling and optional sounds-like variants that bias the engine. Use Shortcuts when a spoken trigger should expand into a longer snippet with optional placeholders.
