Per-app tone and cleanup
Per-app tone is on by default. WhisperJot can auto-detect Formal email, Casual chat, Code/verbatim, Structured notes, or General, or you can pin a tone and cleanup level per app under Settings → Cleanup → Per-app cleanup.
What tones can WhisperJot apply?
The tones are Formal email, Casual chat, Code/verbatim, Structured notes, and General. Detection is automatic unless you pin a tone. Per-app tone is on by default along with self-correction, number normalization, async polish, and signed rule-pack updates.
Pinning lives under Settings → Cleanup → Per-app cleanup. You can pin both a tone and a cleanup level for an application so a terminal stays Code/verbatim while Mail stays Formal email.
How is per-app tone different from insertion overrides?
Tone and cleanup change the words. Insertion overrides change how those words are typed. On macOS, terminals and VMs often need keystroke insertion via Add App…, which is separate from Per-app cleanup. Use both when a VM should receive verbatim code as keystrokes.

Can I force WhisperJot to leave code punctuation alone in a terminal?
Pin Code/verbatim for that app under Settings → Cleanup → Per-app cleanup, and optionally pin a cleanup level such as None or Light. That is separate from the insertion override that chooses keystroke vs clipboard. On macOS, VMware Fusion, Parallels, UTM, Microsoft Remote Desktop, and Citrix already default to keystroke insertion.
Does WhisperJot always use Formal email tone?
No. Tone is auto-detected among Formal email, Casual chat, Code/verbatim, Structured notes, and General unless you pin one. Per-app tone is on by default, so the same utterance can clean up differently in Mail versus a chat app. Open Settings → Cleanup → Per-app cleanup when automatic detection is not what you want.
Is per-app tone available when cleanup is None?
You can pin a cleanup level per app, including None, under Settings → Cleanup → Per-app cleanup. None still applies vocabulary and shortcuts. Light remains the global default when nothing is pinned. Tone labels still describe Formal email, Casual chat, Code/verbatim, Structured notes, and General when cleanup rules or a local LLM are in play.
