Fix Input Monitoring after a Mac update
After an update, Input Monitoring can still show as granted while macOS silently stops delivering key events. fn keeps working because it is a modifier. Use Settings → General → Test your shortcut, then re-grant Input Monitoring and relaunch.
Why did my WhisperJot hotkey stop working after an update?
Updating or rebuilding WhisperJot can change its identity, so the Input Monitoring grant may need to be given again. A stale permission grant happens when Input Monitoring still shows as granted while macOS no longer delivers key events.
The fn key can keep working in that state because it is a modifier. A configured shortcut such as ⌥Space can fail even though the toggle in System Settings looks on.
How do I test the shortcut and re-grant Input Monitoring?
Settings → General includes Test your shortcut. If it reports the key was pressed but not delivered, re-grant Input Monitoring in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring, then relaunch WhisperJot. Permission status also refreshes when you return to the app.
- Open Settings → General and choose Test your shortcut.
- Press your dictation hotkey. If the test says the key was pressed but not delivered, continue.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and re-grant WhisperJot.
- Relaunch WhisperJot and test the shortcut again.
