Which macOS permissions does WhisperJot need?
Microphone is required. It captures your voice, and dictation cannot work without it. Accessibility is required so WhisperJot can type transcribed text into other apps. Without Accessibility, dictations only reach History and the clipboard.
Input Monitoring is optional. It is needed for keyboard hotkeys like ⌥Space and fn. The on-screen floating mic button works without Input Monitoring. Updating or rebuilding the app can change its identity, so this grant may need re-granting after an update.
A common Accessibility trap: if WhisperJot is already listed but toggled off, turn it on — do not try to re-add it.
How do I grant WhisperJot permissions on a Mac?
Deep links go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, Accessibility, or Input Monitoring. Each row in the app's permission checklist offers Grant and Open Settings. WhisperJot pre-registers itself so it appears, unchecked, in System Settings right away. Permission status refreshes automatically when you return to the app.
- Open WhisperJot and look at the permission checklist.
- Choose Grant or Open Settings on Microphone, then allow it.
- Do the same for Accessibility. If WhisperJot is listed but off, toggle it on instead of adding it again.
- Grant Input Monitoring only if you want keyboard hotkeys.
- Return to WhisperJot so the checklist can refresh.

What happens if I deny Accessibility to WhisperJot?
Dictation still runs, but WhisperJot cannot type into other apps. Transcripts go to History and the clipboard instead. The HUD can show no Accessibility — text will be copied, not typed. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, turn WhisperJot on if it is already listed, then return to the app so status refreshes. Microphone remains required for capture.
Do I need Input Monitoring to use WhisperJot on a Mac?
No. Input Monitoring is optional. You need it for keyboard hotkeys such as Option-Space and the fn key. The on-screen floating mic button works with no keyboard permission at all. If you skip Input Monitoring, you can still dictate after granting Microphone and Accessibility, then clicking the floating mic control.
WhisperJot is in Accessibility but still cannot type. Why?
If WhisperJot is already listed and toggled off, turn that switch on. Do not try to add a second copy. Status refreshes when you return to the app. Confirm Microphone is granted too, because capture cannot work without it. Then try a dictation into a normal text field, not a password field, which never receives inserted text.
