Crash recovery for unfinished dictation
Crash recovery is on by default. If WhisperJot quits mid-dictation, the next launch transcribes leftover audio and saves it to History or Copy last. It never types into whatever app is focused then.
What happens if WhisperJot crashes while I am dictating?
In-flight audio is saved to a recovery folder. A normal completion deletes that file. If the app crashes mid-dictation, the next launch transcribes the leftover audio and saves it to History or Copy last. It never types into whatever app is focused now.
Recovery retries up to three launches. A Try Again control on the HUD error card re-transcribes immediately. Low disk space shows a warning while you are recording.
Are crash reports the same as crash recovery?
No. Crash reports are separate, off by default, and asked about after a crash. They never include audio, transcripts, vocabulary, or account details. Recovery audio stays local and is processed by your current engine settings.
If the opt-in Jot Cloud engine is selected when leftover audio is transcribed, that recovery file is treated like other dictation audio for Cloud: it is sent only while Cloud is selected, and audio is never stored on our servers. After three consecutive Cloud failures the app fails fast for 10 minutes; recovery still keeps the file.

Will crash recovery paste into Slack or Mail after a restart?
No. Recovered audio is transcribed and saved to History or Copy last. It never types into whatever app is focused at next launch. That avoids dropping a leftover take into the wrong window. Copy it from History if you still want it inserted. Recovery is on by default and retries on up to three launches after the crash.
How many times will WhisperJot retry a recovered dictation?
Up to three launches. After that, use Try Again on the HUD error card to re-transcribe immediately, or open History if the transcript already landed there. Low disk space shows a warning while recording so you can free space before the recovery file cannot be written. Normal completion deletes the recovery audio.

No. Crash reports are off by default and are offered after a crash. They never include audio, transcripts, vocabulary, or account details. That path is separate from crash recovery, which keeps in-flight audio locally so it can be transcribed into History. Export Diagnostics is a third, manual path if you are filing a problem report.
