What WhisperJot keeps on your device
With Jot Local or Jot Local Pro, transcription runs on your computer by default and history stays in a local database. The opt-in Jot Cloud engine sends audio only while it is selected; that audio is never stored on our servers.
What stays on my computer with the local engines?
Jot Local and Jot Local Pro transcribe on your device. Transcripts are stored locally: on macOS in ~/Library/Application Support/WhisperJot/whisperjot.sqlite, on Windows in %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhisperJot\whisperjot.db, and on Linux under ~/.local/share/WhisperJot/. You can turn history off in Privacy settings with Store transcription history.
On macOS, Keep dictation audio is on by default and saves each dictation's audio locally so History can re-transcribe it. Signed rule-pack updates download from whisperjot.com and upload nothing. If you enable a local LLM at Medium or High cleanup, it stays on localhost (127.0.0.1).
When does audio leave my device?
Audio leaves your machine only if you select the opt-in Jot Cloud engine. While it is selected, each dictation's audio — including saved recordings you re-transcribe — is sent over an encrypted connection to whisperjot.com, transcribed, and returned. Audio is never stored on our servers. Local engines stay on-device. You can switch back anytime.
Meetings always transcribe on-device. The opt-in Jot Cloud engine is never used for meetings or for the wake word. Optional cloud library sync is opt-in and syncs text, titles, and timestamps — never audio.
Straight answers.
Does WhisperJot upload my dictations by default?
No. Jot Local and Jot Local Pro transcribe on your computer, and history stays in a local SQLite database. Audio is sent only while the opt-in Jot Cloud engine is selected, over an encrypted connection to whisperjot.com; audio is never stored on our servers. Rule-pack updates download only. A local LLM, if you enable one, stays on 127.0.0.1. Meetings never use Jot Cloud.
Where does WhisperJot store transcripts on each platform?
On macOS, transcripts live in ~/Library/Application Support/WhisperJot/whisperjot.sqlite. On Windows they live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhisperJot\whisperjot.db. On Linux they live under ~/.local/share/WhisperJot/. Turn Store transcription history off in Privacy settings if you do not want that local log. On macOS, Keep dictation audio is a separate control and is on by default.
Do meetings or the wake word use Jot Cloud?
No. Meetings always transcribe on-device, even if the opt-in Jot Cloud engine is selected for dictation. Wake word is local engines only and is never used with Jot Cloud. If Cloud is selected, a meeting falls back to a cached local model, or it will not start when no local model is downloaded. Cloud library sync is a separate opt-in and never sends meeting audio.
