Is there a free trial?
Not yet. We're a new product and we keep billing simple: no meters, cancel
anytime, and your plan stays active for the full period you paid for. The
browser demo shows exactly what the app does — and if you have
doubts before buying, email us and ask.
Subscription or one-time — how does the pricing work?
The standard plan is a subscription: local speech tech moves quickly, and
the subscription pays for the ongoing work — new engines, better cleanup
rules, the Windows and Linux ports. An active plan covers the app, all
platform downloads, and every update.
Prefer smaller steps? The quarterly plan is $30 every 3 months — the same
WhisperJot, renewing until you cancel, a bit more per month than
annual. From time to time we also run a
limited lifetime offer: one payment for access for as long as WhisperJot
operates, with the same features as the annual plan as they exist and
evolve — see the Terms for
exactly what that means.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, self-serve — open your account and manage billing through the Stripe
portal. No emails to write, no calls to make. Cancelling stops the renewal;
you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Does my audio ever leave my computer?
Not unless you tell it to. By default transcription runs on your machine
using local models, and the optional LLM text cleanup talks only to
127.0.0.1 — turn your Wi-Fi off and dictation keeps working.
The one exception is Jot Cloud, our optional cloud engine: if you select it,
your dictation audio is sent to whisperjot.com servers for transcription
and is never stored there. See our
Privacy Policy for the full details
of what stays on your device.
What platforms are supported?
macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon is our reference platform, and the native
Windows app ships alongside it. Linux builds are in beta. All are included
in the same plan — you download them from one account.
What's the catch on "unlimited"?
There's no meter to game. With the local engines — the default — transcription
uses your computer's own hardware, so the only limit is what your machine can
do. The optional Jot Cloud engine — the pick when you'd rather not give a
local model your disk and RAM — needs an internet connection and is subject to
reasonable fair use. Speech models download on first use (Jot Local is about
2.3 GB) and run locally from then on; Jot Cloud downloads nothing.
How does the lifetime gift license work?
Every $199 lifetime purchase includes a single-use gift code — get one,
gift one. Your confirmation email (and your account's billing page) has a
share link; send it to anyone, they sign in or create a free account, and
claim a lifetime license of their own at no charge. The code works exactly
once, stays valid for 30 days after your purchase — even past the end of
the offer — and the gifted license is a full lifetime license on their own
account, subject to the same
Terms as yours.
