The honest take

Their strengths

Wispr Flow

Wispr Flow has the widest platform coverage here, with Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android apps. It offers a genuinely free tier with no card, polished AI formatting and Command Mode, and support for more than 100 languages. The tradeoffs are that audio must leave the device for cloud transcription, there is no offline mode or Linux build, and unlimited desktop and iPhone use requires an ongoing Pro subscription.

Superwhisper

Superwhisper has a genuinely free tier with unlimited use of small models and an annual plan that costs less than WhisperJot. It also offers a lifetime license, an iOS app, and audio and video file transcription with Pro. Its privacy policy says it does not collect audio, transcripts, personally identifiable information, or usage data, train on user data, or retain data on servers. The policy does not separately describe data flows for optional cloud models or user-supplied API keys.
