Cloud-based, which is exactly what makes it work well: it supports the most platforms here (Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android) and a browser demo, with a generous 14-day free trial and no card required to start. The tradeoff is that your audio has to leave your device to be transcribed, and dictation stops working without an internet connection.
Genuinely privacy-conscious — it can run entirely offline on Apple Silicon, and its free tier is usable forever, not just a trial. Its paid annual plan ($84.99/yr) is a little cheaper than WhisperJot's. What it doesn't offer: a way to guarantee cloud models are never used if you turn them on, and no Linux build.
The only one of the three that gives you both modes on every plan: fully-local engines that keep audio on your device (the default), and an opt-in cloud engine — Jot Cloud — behind an explicit consent gate, with no server-side audio storage, for fast dictation with no model download or RAM pressure.
