To transcribe a lecture, listen and type from a recording, use WhisperJot Meetings live in the room through your microphone, or import a saved lecture audio file on Mac. Meetings is microphone-only and runs on-device; it does not capture calls or system audio. Review terminology against the recording and write your own study summary separately.

Transcribe a lecture manually for study
Work from a lecture recording you have permission to use. Keep the transcript separate from your interpretation and revision notes.
- Set up your lecture document. Label the document with the lecture title and date. Open the recording and use the same source throughout your transcription and review.
- Listen in short sections. Play, pause, and type. Mark unfamiliar terms and unclear passages with playback times so you can return to them. Label a new speaker when a student question interrupts the lecturer.
- Check, then make study notes. Replay uncertain sections and check the wording. Keep your explanations, questions, and summary separate from the checked transcript so you can distinguish the lecturer's words from your own notes.

- A transcript records speech; add your own notes for visual material and do not present them as spoken words.
- Manual transcription takes listening and editing time. An unclear recording still needs uncertainty markers rather than guessed terminology.

- Choose the lecture input. For an in-room lecture you have permission to transcribe, use Meetings with a microphone that can hear the lecturer. Meetings is microphone-only, runs on-device, and does not provide speaker labels or summaries. Nothing joins the call; it does not capture calls or system audio.
- Or import the recording on Mac. For saved audio, select Jot Local or Jot Local Pro, then choose Transcribe Audio File… from the WhisperJot menu bar on Mac. Select a lecture audio file macOS can open. Local engines work offline after the one-time model download; Jot Cloud is opt-in.
- Export and check terminology. For imported audio, open the result in History and export as text. For live Meetings, export Markdown or plain text. Review unfamiliar terms and speaker changes yourself, then write a separate study summary.

Export Markdown or plain text afterwards. It does not provide speaker labels or summaries, so review the wording and prepare your own study notes.
Can it transcribe an online lecture's audio live?
Meetings is microphone-only. It does not capture calls or system audio, and nothing joins the call. For an online lecture, this guide uses an existing saved lecture audio file afterwards on Mac. Choose Transcribe Audio File… in the menu bar and export the resulting transcript from History as text.
Will WhisperJot turn a lecture into revision notes?
WhisperJot produces a transcript, not an automatic summary. Export the text and review terminology and unclear passages first. Then write your own revision notes, explanations, or questions in a separate section or document. Keep visual observations clearly marked so they are not mistaken for words spoken in the lecture.
