How to transcribe a Zoom recording
start with the saved recording audio

To transcribe a Zoom recording with WhisperJot, start with its saved audio file on Mac. Choose Transcribe Audio File… from the menu bar, then export the result from History as text. WhisperJot does not capture calls or system audio. Live Meetings is microphone-only and can transcribe your side of a call, not directly capture remote participants.

Built-in path

Transcribe a saved Zoom recording manually

These steps begin with a recording you already have permission to use. They do not depend on a Zoom plan or a built-in transcript setting.

  1. Open the saved recording. Play the recording and create a text document with a matching meeting title. These instructions begin after recording; they do not configure Zoom recording or download controls.
  2. Type each speaker turn. Pause playback in short sections and type what you hear. Add consistent speaker labels on new lines and mark unclear passages with their playback times.
  3. Review the conversation. Replay the recording while reading the text. Check speaker changes and uncertain words, then keep your own follow-up notes separate from the transcript.
Limits to know

Limits to know

  • This manual method requires an existing recording; it does not create one or enable recording permissions.
  • No Zoom built-in transcription availability, plan requirement, or video-file import is assumed here.
The WhisperJot way

Transcribe the Zoom recording audio afterwards on Mac

  1. Choose a local engine. Use Jot Local or Jot Local Pro for on-device transcription, offline after the one-time model download. Jot Local Pro is the long-form engine. Jot Cloud is opt-in.
  2. Select saved audio on Mac. In the WhisperJot menu bar on Mac, choose Transcribe Audio File… and select the recording's audio file in a type macOS can open. These steps require audio; they do not describe extracting audio from a video.
  3. Export and review. Open the result in History and export as text. Check it against the recording and add speaker labels manually. WhisperJot does not provide speaker labels or summaries.
  4. Distinguish the live microphone option. For your side of a call, Meetings provides microphone-only live transcription on-device and Markdown or plain-text export. Nothing joins the call. WhisperJot does not capture calls or system audio; use an existing recording file for the recorded conversation afterwards.
Tips

Make the first session count.

Start with available audio

Have the saved audio file on your Mac before opening Transcribe Audio File…. A meeting link is not the file input.

Understand the live input

Meetings hears your microphone. It does not capture the remote side's system audio.

Add labels during review

Use the recording to identify speaker turns and write your own follow-up notes after checking the transcript.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does WhisperJot join Zoom to record the call?

No. Nothing joins the call. WhisperJot Meetings is microphone-only live transcription, suitable for your side of a call. It does not capture calls or system audio. To transcribe the recorded conversation afterwards, start with its saved audio file on Mac and use Transcribe Audio File… from the menu bar.

How do I export a Zoom recording transcript?

After importing the saved recording audio through WhisperJot's Mac menu bar, find the transcription result in History and export as text. Check it against the recording and add speaker labels in your editor. The separate live Meetings feature exports Markdown or plain text, but its input is only your microphone.

Does this require Zoom's built-in transcription?

This method starts with a recording you already have and does not rely on Zoom's built-in transcription. Play and type manually, or import the saved audio file into WhisperJot on Mac. This guide does not specify Zoom plan requirements, recording controls, or downloads; it covers checking and exporting the transcript afterwards.
