Dictate actionable Linear tickets

Open a Linear issue draft, select the team and template, and dictate into the description field. Describe the current behavior, requested change, and acceptance criteria. Set properties with Linear's controls and review the draft before creating the issue.

Start from the team's structure

Linear issues belong to a team. Choose that team and any suitable issue template before dictating so you can fill the intended sections. A template can prefill properties and description prompts; speaking a team or assignee name does not select it automatically.

  1. Open Create new issue in Linear and select the team.
  2. Choose the relevant template, if one is available, and review its defaults.
  3. Write a short title, click the description or its first text field, and start dictation.

Dictate a change someone can verify

This is an authored issue example. Replace the behavior with an observed problem and the acceptance criteria with the result your team intends. Paste exact error strings and links from their source so dictation does not alter them.

Illustrative example — edit before using
Current behavior: The export screen shows no progress while a file is being prepared.
Requested change: Show a progress state until the download is ready.
Acceptance criteria: Repeated clicks do not start duplicate exports. A failed export shows a retry action.
Evidence: [attach the relevant screenshot or exact error]

Review properties and publish

If text does not appear, try a scratch editor before changing the issue. Browser focus, an open menu, or a non-editable field can affect insertion. Local transcription does not change how Linear stores submitted issue content.

  1. Check each template field for missing information and remove unused placeholders.
  2. Set the status, priority, assignee, labels, and project using Linear's controls where needed.
  3. Confirm the title and description agree about the scope, then create the issue yourself.

Questions

Does dictation assign or create the issue automatically?

No. This workflow enters prose into a draft. Select properties and create the issue using Linear's controls.

How is this different from a generic bug report?

A Linear workflow includes team selection, template fields, and issue properties. The description can also cover a feature or improvement rather than a bug reproduction.
