WAV to text free, in your browser

Turn your WAV file into text with this free browser tool, for recordings up to 10 minutes. Review the transcript, then copy or download it. Your file is decoded in your browser and sent once for transcription; audio is never stored on our servers. The free tool requires internet.

Updated

This free tool uses Jot Cloud, our optional cloud engine: your file is decoded in your browser, sent once for transcription, and never stored on our servers. For transcription that stays on your device, use the WhisperJot desktop app. Jot Cloud is opt-in: choosing or dropping a file uses it only for this request.

How it works

  1. Choose a file

Choose or drop one recording. Choosing a file opts in to Jot Cloud, our optional cloud engine, only for this request.

  2. Decode and transcribe

Your file is decoded in your browser and the converted audio is sent once for transcription. Audio is never stored on our servers.

  3. Copy or download

Review the transcript, then copy the text or download a .txt file.

Limits

  • Up to 10 minutes per file (600 seconds).
  • Up to 20.0 MB for the converted audio upload.
  • A fair-use daily limit applies.
  • Requires internet and a browser that can decode your file.

Transcribe a WAV audio file

WAV is an audio container commonly used for recorder files and audio editor exports. A spoken interview, a dictated note, or a lecture excerpt saved as WAV can become a transcript for you to review and reuse.

WAV to text works in browsers that can decode your file. If decoding fails, try a different browser or convert the recording to WAV/MP3. Duration and converted upload size limits still apply even when your browser can open it.

Questions about wav to text

Is this audio to text converter free?

Yes. This browser tool is free for recordings up to 10 minutes, with a fair-use daily limit. Choose a file, wait for transcription, then copy the result or download it as a text file.

Do you store my audio?

No. Audio is never stored on our servers. Choosing a file is opt-in to Jot Cloud, our optional cloud engine, used only for this request. Your browser decodes the file and sends the converted audio once for transcription.

How long a file can I transcribe?

The free tool accepts recordings up to 10 minutes, subject to a converted upload size limit and a fair-use daily limit. For longer recordings, WhisperJot desktop offers unlimited transcription with local engines by default.

Does it work offline?

No. The free tool needs internet to send audio for transcription and receive the text. WhisperJot desktop works offline with local engines after a one-time model download. On Mac, use Transcribe Audio File… to import recordings.
