Capture the thought before organizing it

Long recordings can mix several unrelated ideas. Short captures make it easier to catch a missing word or an incorrect name while you still remember what you meant. You can split a note later when its parts become clearer.

  1. Create a new note in your chosen folder and click into its editable body.
  2. Speak the core idea first, then the example that made you think of it.
  3. Stop recording and read the inserted text before starting another thought.

Shape the capture into a reusable note

This is an illustrative edited note. Dictate the prose, then enter the heading and links with the editor. Saying the title of another note does not necessarily create a working internal link; check the target using Obsidian's link tools.

Connect and verify

Your local dictation engine does not control where an Obsidian vault is stored or synchronized. Check the vault location and any sync settings independently if you want to keep the resulting text on one device.

  1. Give the note a descriptive title that you could search for later.
  2. Link to the source note or document and separate facts from open questions.
  3. Correct names and numbers. Keep a next action only if it reflects what you intend to do.

Can I dictate Obsidian links?

You can speak the text of a note title, but bracket syntax and the correct link target need review. Creating the link with Obsidian's editor is often more reliable than pronouncing punctuation.

Is a dictated note automatically organized?
