Dictation text in the wrong window?
Stop recording and check which app and text field had focus. Recover the transcript from History if it was saved, then paste it into the intended draft. On macOS, WhisperJot detects a change of foreground app and can route text to the clipboard instead of inserting it.

Recover the text first
After successful insertion, WhisperJot may restore the previous clipboard contents. A later Paste can therefore insert an older item. Copy the desired History entry explicitly instead of assuming the clipboard still contains your dictation. History recovery depends on your retention settings.
- Stop dictating so another recording does not obscure the current result.
- Check the HUD message and History. If the transcript is available, copy it from there.
- Click the intended field and inspect the copied text in a scratch document before pasting it into a message.
Separate an app switch from a field switch
| Observation | What to check |
|---|---|
| Different app opened during recording | On Mac, look for the clipboard fallback explanation. |
| Same app, different input field | Click the intended field again; app-level checks do not identify every field change. |
| Nothing inserted | Try an ordinary editable document and check insertion permissions. |
| Old text pasted manually | Copy the transcript explicitly from History. |
Run a controlled focus check
Password fields and other secure targets are intentionally restricted. On Windows, elevated administrator windows and the UAC screen cannot receive normal injected input. Use an ordinary draft instead of trying to bypass those restrictions.
- Open a new plain text document and click its body.
- Dictate a short neutral sentence without changing apps or clicking elsewhere.
- Repeat in the problem app. Close menus and dialogs before recording.
- If the plain editor works but the target does not, check the per-app insertion method and the target field's editability.
Questions
Does the Mac safeguard detect every cursor move?
No. A foreground-app check is not the same as tracking every text field inside that app. Keep the intended field focused until insertion finishes.
Why does Paste insert something I copied earlier?
The clipboard can be restored after successful insertion. Copy the specific transcript from History, if retained, before using Paste again.
