Offline dictation is a useful fit when you need speech-to-text without a connection or want transcription to run on your own computer. WhisperJot's local engines work after model setup. Downloads, sign-in, periodic account checks, and optional cloud features have separate network requirements.

Choose for your actual working conditions
A local model uses your computer's resources. Model download size is not the same as runtime memory. Compare the experience while your usual editor, browser, and other applications are open.

Choose offline speech to text for your computer
For private dictation, check both where speech is recognized and where the resulting text goes. An offline speech engine can type into a cloud document; that document may still sync the text. Choose a local editor when your task also requires the document to stay on the computer.

Live voice typing or an audio file?
Live dictation turns speech from your microphone into text in the focused field. File transcription starts with a recording you already have. Check the workflow as well as the engine before choosing offline speech-to-text software.
On Mac, WhisperJot's Transcribe Audio File action can use a downloaded local model. The website's free audio-to-text tools use opt-in cloud transcription and require internet. Do not use a browser-tool result as a measurement of local model speed or accuracy.
Understand the boundary of offline operation
Selecting Jot Local or Jot Local Pro makes that speech-to-text stage local. It does not make a browser-based ticketing system or cloud email account offline. Those applications control how the resulting text is saved and transmitted.
Jot Cloud is opt-in and sends audio for transcription while selected. Account verification still needs periodic connectivity even when you use local engines. The browser demo demonstrates a cloud path, so it cannot establish how the installed app performs offline.
Check suitability before relying on it
- Check the requirements page for your platform and available memory and storage.
- Complete sign-in, select the local engine, and let its model finish downloading.
- Dictate into a local scratch document, then repeat after disconnecting all network paths.
- Review correction time and responsiveness. Check account access before a longer disconnected period.

Does offline mean the entire app never connects?
No. It describes the selected transcription path after setup. Downloads, account access, optional cloud services, and destination apps must be considered separately.
Can I test offline dictation in the browser demo?
No. The demo uses cloud transcription. Install the desktop app and download a local model to check offline operation on your computer.
